4-Star Historic Guesthouse in Cheltenham

Accommodation

The Portland Guesthouse offers seven unique ensuite bedrooms, each styled to reflect the building's late-Georgian heritage. Decor ranges from Regency blue to warm plum tones, ensuring a variety that suits individual tastes. Sumptuous beds promise a restful night, complemented by homemade breakfast aromas in the morning.

Historical Significance

With 183 years of history as a guesthouse, The Portland retains its charm while providing modern comforts. The elegant period plasterwork on ceilings and cornices reflects the building's historical character. Each room's decor is thoughtfully curated to maintain a connection to its Regency roots.

Located in central Cheltenham, guests have easy access to local festivals, including the famous Literature Festival and Cheltenham Racecourse. The Brewery Quarter, less than five minutes away, offers diverse shopping, dining, and entertainment. Nearby attractions include Pittville Park and Pump Room, ideal for leisurely strolls.

Social Enterprise

The Portland operates as a social enterprise, developed by the Gloucestershire charity Aim Up, providing vocational training to vulnerable adults in hospitality. The initiative aims to bring the property back to its original purpose of a guesthouse and school. High-quality accommodation is paired with the opportunity for skill development and training.

Dining Options

Breakfast is served in a traditional Regency breakfast room, with options ranging from continental selections to full cooked breakfasts. The Portland also offers afternoon tea, featuring locally sourced ingredients in sandwiches and freshly baked scones. Special dietary requests can be accommodated upon inquiry.
